NATIONAL President of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Mallam Abdulazeez Sirajudeen Folayemi, has urged the Federal Government to immortalise the late Secretary of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Abdul Lateef Adegbite, for standing for unity of the country.

Folayemi made the appeal during a two-day national retreat, with the theme: Between Past and Present Generations: Focusing on the Goals, organised by MSSN in Ilorin.

According to him, Dr Adegbite had passion for what the future holds for Islam and the Muslim child in the then Nigeria and West Africa sub-region.

“He pursued his dream with good works, good words, dedication, belief, sincerity, fearlessness and courage even in the face of oppression and subjugation,” he said.

The MSSN president appealed to politicians to take the issue of security in the country seriously and avoid destructive criticisms.

He said that the establishment of MSSN on 18 April, 1954, was in response to the yearning of Muslim students for a platform to discuss and find solutions to commons problem and challenges, especially in the face of hostile environment prevalent then in the country.

“The MSSN has since grown in leaps and bounds to be the largest organisation (religious or otherwise) not only in Nigeria, but in Africa. The contributions of MSSN to national development are enormous and these include serving as a potent tool of national unity and cohesion,” he said.

MUSLIMS have been charged to always be above board in all their engagements in life and ensure that their intentions towards all endeavours are free from impurities.
